Beautiful Corner

Beautiful Corner

What is it?

Beautiful Corner is a one-player, interactive narrative installation piece I created for my graduate thesis project at USC’s Interactive Media and Games program in 2016.

It has a set, lights, and sounds that react as a player solves puzzles and progresses through the narrative. The story is centered around camp, imaginary friends, childhood magic, and the decision of when to grow up.

Players take on the role of Avery, who receives a mysterious letter from an old childhood friend inviting them to their home.  They must “re-discover” their shared past, discover what’s going on in their friend’s childhood room, and make a final important choice for both of them.

Check out the infographic at the bottom of the page and link to in-game letters to learn more about the story!

What I love about it

My main thesis interest was taking the formula of escape rooms but focusing more on story and single-player roleplay. I love the theming of escape rooms but want to feel more belonging and ownership in the space with roleplay.  Designing puzzles that feel narratively relevant and also solvable by 1 person was an exciting challenge.
